It is often believed that when the food is grown organically without the use of pesticides, it tastes better and is healthier. The presence of high levels of antioxidants leads to enhanced taste, aroma and mouth feel

Why is organic food costly to end users?

Despite the fact that reaping organic food is cost friendly, it is costlier to consumers for a variety of reasons. Such reasons include:

  • Food Supply is limited as compared to demand
  • Post-harvest handling and care is costly due to relative smaller quantities of food being grown and sold
  • Requires greater labor input and not enough production to cover the overall cost
  • Marketing and distribution chain of organic products is relatively inefficient and higher because of small volumes
